Guitar legend Bill Frisell released third Blue Note album!
Bill Frisell, the one and only guitar legend who expresses not only jazz but also pop and roots music genres with his unique sound, has released his first new album in two years. This album, his third for Blue Note, features an irregular quartet formation of Greg Tardi (sax, cl), Gerald Clayton (p), and Jonathan Blake (ds) for the entire album. The idea had already existed before the Corona Disaster, and it was during the pandemic that he picked up the guitar and created the songs and fragments of ideas that became the basis for this album. Frisère said that they did not have any specifics about the sessions. "Everyone knew the songs and ideas I brought, but we were very open about who was going to play what and when," Frisère said. I was a little scared of not having a bass player, but I didn't think too much about the composition. It was always more about the chemistry. This album captures the first moments of the four of us getting together to play, so it will be something different when we play it live." The songs are a mix of 13 original Frisère songs, a mixture of old and new. The songs are all imbued with a melancholic sadness, as the recording was made after the loss of a dear friend during the pandemic. Dear Old Friend," dedicated to his late childhood friend Alan Woodward; "Claude Attlee," dedicated to his friend and painter who also passed away; and "Waltz for Hal Willner," dedicated to the rare and famous producer Hal Willner, who died in 2020. All are beautifully sublimated by the anguish Frisère experienced during the Corona Disaster and are a must-hear. 180g weight vinyl 2LP.
